As a high-boiling, low-volatility solvent, it features strong solvency, a mild odor, relatively low toxicity, and good compatibility with many organic solvents. Its most prominent application is its excellent solvency for cellulose derivatives (especially nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, and ethyl cellulose), making it an ideal solvent for formulating high-solids, low-volatility, high-performance coatings, inks, and adhesives, effectively improving film leveling property, gloss, and blush resistance. In the fragrance industry, due to its high boiling point and stability, it can be used as a fixative for perfumes, extending fragrance longevity. It also serves as an auxiliary plasticizer for certain plastics and resins to improve processability. Furthermore, it is used as a dye solvent in textile printing and dyeing, and in some specialized cleaning agent formulations.
